Mozilla based browser for the N800
The N800 is a small tablet type device produced by Nokia.
It has a 320Mhz ARM CPU, 128MB of RAM and 256MB of flash storage. While the latter sounds small it also has two card slots allowing plugging in lots of extra storage. The display is a nice 800x480 and about 4 inches. It has both 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0. A built in camera is also included.
Recently a Skype client became available for it and now it seems a browser based on Gecko, the engine behind Firefox.
The new browser seems to be well received based on posts to this thread and there's a nifty web site that explains a bit about it.
The browser is open source. Links to the source and other stuff here.
I don't have one, but being a gadget person I have to say I'm now quite tempted! Time to stop reading about it...

For a hacker, the N800 is really interesting because there is a lot of development going on for it and it is quite portable and low-power. It is a sort of WiFi/Webcam appliance. The built in Opera browser is quite nice, but I'm with you in being excited about an open-source browser based on Gecko.
If you do get one, I'd be interested in walking you through getting Rhino to run. I've been playing with the Java/JavaScript-based server you demonstrated, but it I haven't had enough play time to get it running on the N800 yet.
Yes the n800 is a very nice device although unfortunately nokia has seen fit not to release them in aus & nz.
I did manage to get its predecessor the n770 through a friend in the uk and it makes a fantastic doc reader with its very high dpi screen.
Though I have seen that www.dynamism.com do sell the n800 at its normally RRP and offer worldwide shipping.
Having a gecko-based browser available will also make life much easier using the device for developing/running modern ajaxy apps since opera has its own set of quirks.
Also one of the reasons I was interested in your work on the javascript assembler code was I'm trying to use that to generate small simple apps for my 770 without having to install the whole big scratchbox/maemo dev SDK to write apps and maybe even get to the point of self-hosting and writing small apps on the device itself! :-)
oops should correct myself: just went had a look at nokia.com.au and the n800 is now marked as an "upcoming" phone model...
Thanks for the info guys. I looked on the local auction site at they're going for way more than what I can get ordered from dynamism. If I get one I'll probably go that route. With the current very kiwi dollar rate it's not too expensive.
There's a Finnish coder named Andriy in the N800 forum on Facebook who works on the browser. I think you should get in touch with him.
well, to be precise, I'm not Finn (tho I do live in Finland) and I am not a coder ;) And I don't work on browser :) I'm only running small maemo-related group at Facebook, trying to grow up maemo crowd at Facebook :)
as option, you can join developers mailing list on maemo.org (if not yet) and wait for next developer program - you ought to get even better than n800 box, just participate :)
if you have any question, feel fre to mail me.
